seaside
salty seaside chips, wild poppies in pavement cracks; the stony beach with well-worn rocks, layers of sediment and pungent old seaweed; the sandy beach, hot underfoot, dotted with the deposits of small burrowing crabs; gulls that call and circle; whipped ice cream that melts too fast; unrelenting sun, hair stuck to the back of my neck; four brown patches of an around-the-sandle tan; pinkish shoulders and nose; new freckles; a friendly horse that bucked and snorted; crickets heard but not seen; cold cold beers; hot tea and coffee for 70p; the dizzying, stupefying urge to just jump off the pier; mini crashing waves, tiny rolling waves; the lights twinkling across the bay that look walking distance but you know are much, much further.

sweet july...
This summer broadbeans surprised us. I got out my favourite vintage shoes. Our honeysuckle finally bloomed after about 5 years of unwinding miserably on the trellis. Six weeks of Sweet Williams and counting... Yummy shortbread, modified from this shortbread recipe. Yum.

ming makes cupcakes
Grannie's ginger cookies with lemon cream filling by ming makes cupcakes are, in my sister's words, 'the best cookie I have ever eaten in my life.' I am quite the cookie maker (they're easier than cupcakes and almost always edible no matter how they look!) and this is going to be my new core recipe. Chewy but with a grainy sugary crunch, soft but not crumbly, sweet but with a hint of spice. Just the best.

things in threes
I just made some new necklaces for the tfortexas shop. Everything seemed to come to me in threes. I love these because I've spent so long looking for beads I like. These are all from various sources, mostly vintage. I can make a few of each but they have a one-off kind of charm that I think makes them special.
